The Portage Northern Drama and Music Departments are excited to present the fall musical, Avenue Q School Edition. This area premier of the School Edition is a student friendly version (PG-13) of the original Avenue Q which won the Tony “Triple Crown” for Best Musical, Best Score, and Best Book in 2004.
Utilizing actors and almost life-size puppets, this laugh-out-loud contemporary musical tells the timeless story of Princeton, (Adam Mayer, 12) a recent college graduate, who searches for a new life down in the grungy East Village of New York City. There he meets the residents of the neighborhood including Kate Monster (Aly Badalamenti, 12), Nicky (Brett Gowen, 12), Rod (Buchanan Highhouse, 12), Brian (Drew Bormann, 11), Christmas Eve (Stephanie Beckner, 11), Gary Coleman (Kayla Brown, 10), and Trekkie Monster (Ryan Poniedzielski, 11). Other featured characters include Lucy (Sarah Jane Carpenter, 12), the Bad Idea Bears (Dylan Jones, 11 and Kaitlyn Ludeker, 10), and Mrs. Butz (Hailey Burger, 10). Princeton and his newfound friends struggle to find jobs, dates, and their ever-elusive purpose of life.
Avenue Q School Edition is a fresh, innovative musical packed with heart and challenging life lessons. The music is upbeat and clever and the show is packed with energetic small and large ensemble numbers. Over 75 Northern students are involved in the production as actors, dancers, singers, and technical crew. You won’t want to miss this lively, hilarious show.
